“Solutions” homebuyer education is designed specifically for homebuyers obtaining a loan and down payment assistance through the Arizona Homebuyer Solutions program. “Solutions” is required for these borrowers if they are first-time homebuyers.

The “Solutions” homebuyer education course is designed especially for AHS loan programs and differs slightly from conventional community homebuyer education programs. The class is divided into two sections:

  1. Homebuyers (Pre-Purchase) This portion of the class is completed prior to loan closing
    Workshop topics include:
    Preparation for homeownership
The terms and conditions of the loan program and the down payment assistance
The provisions of the purchase contract
The specifics of the closing process

  2. Homeowner (Post-Purchase) This portion is scheduled within six months following loan closing.
    Workshop topics include:
    Budgeting/spending habits
    Maintaining good credit
    Home maintenance
    When does refinancing make sense?
    Preventing mortgage delinquency

The curriculum for the classes takes into consideration that the borrower has already selected a home to purchase and has a loan in process with a 30-45 day close. Each homebuyer will receive a comprehensive packet of articles and information about credit, spending habits and post-purchase issues.

The cost of the program is $350 and may be financed by the down payment assistance at closing. The homebuyer portion of “Solutions” is three hours in length. Classes or individual sessions will be available for Spanish language preference homebuyers.

Call FHR to register for class and to obtain information about class times and locations. Borrowers should mention that they are requesting the “Solutions” class.

Most Frequently Asked Questions:

Who is required to attend the “Solutions” class?
FHR expects both the borrower and co-borrower to attend the class. However, both borrowers do not have to attend the same class. Contact FHR at 1-866-FHR-CASA if available times cause a hardship.
Can borrowers bring their children to the “Solutions” class?
FHR has limited time to share a great deal of information to prepare you for homeownership. We do not allow children at the classes.

Can borrowers attend the class after closing?
No, the “Solutions” course helps prepare the borrower for loan closing. The program has two portions: the pre-purchase class which homebuyers complete prior to loan closing and the post-purchase class which will be scheduled within six months following loan closing.

Can borrowers take another homebuyer education class that is offered in the community at different time and locations?
While FHR values community homebuyer education classes and encourages homebuyers to obtain as much information as possible, we require borrowers to attend the “Solutions” course because it is specifically designed for the Community Solutions Second Mortgage homebuyer.
